Towards a resilient and sustainable food system

The conference was held in English and German with simultaneous translation.

Online conference, organised by the non-profit INFINO (Initiativ fir Nohaltegkeet – initiative for sustainable development) in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg and the Council for Sustainable Development (Nohaltegkeetsrot), with the support of the Œuvre Nationale de Secours Grande-Duchesse Charlotte.

Luxembourg’s food system is far from being resilient or sustainable. Most of the food that is sold and consumed here comes from international markets, with long supply chains and many negative ecological and social externalities. At the same time these chains are very complex and would require concerted action by all actors in the food system to change the situation. How should this be done, what are the key elements to consider?

The objective of this conference is to bring together different actors of the food system and to explore paths for a long-term strategy on the country’s food resilience, while trying to respond to the current challenges at the territorial level.

With the multi-stakeholder composition of the speakers and the audience, the aim of this conference is to give impetus to the identification of innovative and transdisciplinary solutions to make the food system in Luxembourg more sustainable from an environmental point of view and fairer from a social point of view, while being viable from a local economic point of view – all of this in the spirit of following up on the commitments of the Sustainable Development Objectives.
